Dozens protested a QR-code vaccine certificate system in an uncoordinated rally in Belgorod, on Saturday.

Demonstrators were seen chanting Victory Day, a popular Russian song traditionally sung during May 9 celebrations. According to the local media, the purpose of the rally was to collect signatures on a petition to abolish vaccination codes and to record an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Law enforcement officials had reportedly warned the rally organisers about the responsibility for holding an unauthorised public event. No information on detentions at the rally has been made public.

In Belgorod region, QR-codes with vaccine status information are mandatory to enter stores and other businesses since November 8. The rule was initially introduced for two weeks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 but was prolonged until December 6th.
